To show my gratitude to my teachers I’ve decided to write an appreciation post for my English teacher, Ms. Ulrich. Her class and teaching style stands out from the way she shows excitement to teach and the encouragement she gives to us students whenever we feel stuck and need a little boost of motivation. Ms. Ulrich makes sure we have the sources we need to help us with our assignments. She’s also constantly checking in not only to make sure we’re caught up and feeling good about school but also to check in on us as people and see how we’re doing. The care she has for us students and enjoyment she shows while teaching is what made me decide to write an appreciation post for her and her class.
In this class we have lessons to go over each week to gain more knowledge and better our writing skills. We’ve also been working on an assignment for the past few weeks, we are writing a historical fiction story. In this historical fiction story we had 4 options on what we wanted our story to be about from history and after we made that decision, each week we worked on our story slowly by building up how we wanted to write it and to build the story line. This assignment was really cool to get to work on because we had the freedom of making our story line however we wanted as long as we wrote about one of the events that happened in history. The purpose for this assignment was great because it was a way for us to write a story and give a view of what life was like during those times to the readers. I would definitely recommend this class to other students because you get a lot of freedom to be creative in your writing and while doing that you also gain knowledge on all the different ways you can write a story.
I asked Ms. Ulrich a few questions about her and her class so here are my questions and her answers.
The first question I asked was “What do you love most about teaching this course?”. Her answer was that she loves teaching how to write a historical fiction story and getting to see all of the students’ creative writing skills. She also enjoys seeing the way students grow from each assignment, watching their writing skills get better each time and seeing their stories form together.
The next question I asked was “What’s one piece of advice you give to students starting this course?”. Her answer was to take your time with the writing pieces and give your all into your writing to really understand what you’re writing about and the purpose of it.
I also asked her “How do you support students when they feel stuck or overwhelmed?”. Her answer was that she checks in on the student more often than usual and to understand that students are people before students and they have lives outside of school so she just tries to be understanding of what’s going on in a students life and give them the support they need.
I then asked her “What’s one project or topic students usually enjoy most?” Her answer was that students usually enjoy working on a teenage mental health assignment because this assignment is about talking and showing awareness to teenage mental health. Students enjoy this because they also get to do a lot of research about teenage mental health to understand themselves and other teenagers around them better.
I’ve had lots of personal growth in this class because Ms. Ulrich does an amazing job on helping us students set goals in a way where they’re accomplishable and easy to maintain. Ms. Ulrich has definitely helped me grow academically and personally because I constantly find myself making goals that I know I can get done if I put my time and mind to it no matter what the goal is.
I definitely suggest taking this class to any other students. Your writing skills will grow and you will also grow academically and personally. If you’re reading this and you are about to take this class you should know that you are going to have a great time writing and doing all the creative assignments Ms. Ulrich has planned out and you should also know that you are going into great hands and Ms. Ulrich is an amazing teacher and will make sure you succeed and help you grow on the way to your success.
