Summer Bootcamp Packages

Get a jump start on earning PD hours with our Boot Camp Packages. Each boot camp provides a deep dive into an innovative instructional strategy and is broken up into 3 workshop-style sessions over the course of three days. The Covid-19 pandemic surfaced equity of access issues that have been concerns in schools for quite some time. Schools and teachers were forced to pivot to often brand-new learning modalities. One strategy to engage students in learning is by approaching learning using an inquiry frame. Elementary Math

This session begins with using digital tools to help with elementary math talk routines: What do math talks look like and what are some tricks for success?
The session will also explore math language routines, revisiting some classic strategies like 3 Reads, Stronger and Clearer, Compare and Connect and participants will learn new language routines, too! Lastly, we will explore the power of small groups while experiencing the 8 mathematical practices and create individual goals for the upcoming year.

The first focus of the session will be on what we know about the science of reading. The Keys to a Compassionate K-12 Classroom

We know learning compassion increases students’ sense of well-being and improves the classroom environment for all learners – but simply put, it can be difficult to find both the time and quality lessons. In this session, we will explore several resources and activities that will enhance the Social Emotional Learning that students need in order to be successful in school and in life. K-12 educators will leave this session with a comprehensive unit covering SEL, wellness, and/or cultural literacy that is aligned to the CASEL standards, including interactive scenarios and self-guided activities. Resources are available to K-12 educators and students at no cost on the EVERFI platform thanks to community partners like the NFL and United Way.

Introduction to Online Wellness: An Educator's Guide to Incorporating Digital Citizenship

In a year when our students have had maximum screen use and minimal physical interaction, digital stressors and mental health are a deep concern for both teachers and parents. Join Common Sense as we address our kids’ online well-being and explore practical steps we can take to ensure our students think critically, act responsibly, and engage with others in a positive way. You will learn how to integrate digital citizenship in your classroom and create a guide to support your families in addressing digital media at home. You will leave with free resources from Common Sense Education that you can immediately use in your classroom in the fall.

Blended & Digital Learning: Building Your Teacher Toolbox (July 5-23, 2021)

This course is designed to support teachers in developing skills to teach in almost any modern setting: digital, hybrid, flex, concurrent, and of course, in-person. Through five modules, participants will take away not only technological tools and strategies to increase student engagement, but will strengthen their understanding of purposeful blended learning practices which will support diverse learners and diverse learning environments. Participants will be asked to produce concrete examples showing how they plan to use the information in the modules to support their daily teaching practice. Participants should expect to spend at least three hours per module, which will involve reading materials, viewing videos, and submitting reflections or other assignments. This course allows for a total of 15 professional development hours.

Note: the course requires a personal Gmail account which will be collected by your instructor after registration. Work Gmail will not work with our Google Classroom.

Teaching and Learning with Imagination

This course will introduce participants to imagination as a critical resource for teaching and learning. Building from a critical grounding in theories of imagination, participants will learn strategies and tools for inspiring imagination through project-based learning curricula. Open to teachers of all grade levels and subjects. This workshop is offered in partnership with ASU’s Center for Science & the Imagination. Registration will be capped at 30.
