Club Spotlight: Finance Club

By Mikey Vasquez

The finance club is here to get students pumped for their future and budgeting. Lots of people will graduate high school without lots of knowledge on budgeting. The finance club is to help students budget, plan for big spending, and overall money with learning new terms that will help with finding banks and handling money. You’ll participate in activities like 2 minute business pitches, budgeting for holidays, dealing with unexpected emergencies and more. A recent project was the poster project where we had to make a poster relating to an economic word and explain what it is without using words and only drawing. Last semester, me and some other students got together to make a talk show and we discussed the upcoming holidays and how to budget. We showed the difference between smart spending and spending without much thought, we explain other things like picking a Christmas tree, getting gifts for people smartly, setting up festive lights correctly as to not lose much money on energy costs, and other money savers but still having lots of fun. I’m in finance club so I have firsthand experience, it’s usually fun and we get to play finance games and learn about how to manage money and understand money. The club sponsor is Shannon Sweat, she keeps the club fun and always has activities prepared.
