Becoming a lawyer is something that’s interested me for a long time. I’ve always seen it as one of the most powerful ways to make a real difference in the world. Lawyers play such an important role in society: they’re problem solvers, protectors, and advocates. It’s a career that requires confidence, critical thinking, and heart, and that’s exactly the kind of path I want to follow.
ASU Prep Digital has helped me start working toward that goal earlier than I ever expected. I’m in 10th grade and have already completed nine college classes through the concurrent enrollment program, giving me 27 college credits so far. It’s one of my favorite parts of ASUPD – being able to take college-level courses in high school has helped me stay motivated and feel like I’m actively building my future. I plan to major in political science and possibly minor in philosophy, both of which connect well with law.
Right now, I’m especially interested in criminal law and environmental law. Both areas feel like ways I could make a lasting impact. Whether it’s fighting for justice or protecting the planet, I hope to intern with a law firm or an elected official to get firsthand experience and learn more about what day-to-day work in the field looks like. I’ve also been researching different areas of law and trying to figure out what fits me best.
If you’re still figuring out your path, I’d just say this: let yourself explore. ASUPD offers so many amazing opportunities, and you never know what might click until you try it. Use this time to challenge yourself and discover what you’re passionate about: you’re more capable than you think.
