I am so excited for this prompt because I have three dream careers. In no particular order, it is fantasy YA author, game writer, and children/teen librarian.
I like books, specifically fantasy novels. I can finish a 300 page novel in a day or two. Fantasy books are fast-paced enough that they don’t bore me, but they also have meaningful slow scenes that make a difference. I want to be a fantasy author because who wouldn’t want to have a job creating fake worlds, creating magic users, and writing stories about warriors and dragons.
I’m in Game Design B right now and it is amazing. Although I’d wouldn’t want to be the person that sits down and codes an entire game, writing the plot and dialogue and characters for a game thrills me. I can just imaging getting a game out where people play it and invest time in it, escaping our world for one create. Plus, my favorite parts of games are the narratives and I also want to learn more about my favorite characters.
Finally, children/teen librarian. Every Friday since September I’ve volunteered one hour at a library about two miles away from my house. At first, it seemed like all the librarians did the same thing but after working there for a while, I noticed that my supervisor, the children librarian, creates the different books list, sets up the displays, and creates an experience where kids want to came and read. I was inspired by her and by my time at the library. Being a librarian for kids and being someone who helps them learn to love reading is something that I want to do when I’m older.
To get closer to my goal, I’m gonna to do what I do now. I’ll keep writing, expanding my stories to novels and getting them out to people who want to read and their ideas and questions with me. I’m going to continue Game Design class, in fact I’m waiting for a response from the Pima JTED near me since I signed up for their Game Design class. And keep volunteering my time at different libraries, seeing how the librarians run and keep the library going.
In conclusion, these are my dreams. You can have your own dreams too, but don’t just leave them as ideas. Move forward using the resources you can, wether in ASUPD or outside in different places. Capture your dreams and hold them tight because you can make them happen. I’m going to end this with a quote from American poet and social activist Langston Hughes. ‘Hold fast to your dreams for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird, that cannot fly.’
