ASU Prep Digital student Morgan James takes center stage
At ASU Prep Digital, students are encouraged to explore their interests and take on meaningful opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Morgan James, a senior from Peoria, AZ, exemplifies this spirit, stepping into the spotlight in the West Valley production of Little Shop of Horrors and demonstrating creativity, dedication and leadership.
In this production, Morgan serves as one of the puppeteers for the two larger Audrey II pods, a demanding role he was asked to take on due to his previous puppeteering experience with TheaterWorks. His commitment to the arts is long-standing, and he has been working with Valley Youth Theatre since 2017 when he was only 10 years old.
A creative spirit nurtured by ASU Prep Digital
Morgan’s journey in the performing arts highlights how ASU Prep Digital empowers students to pursue passions and develop their talents while staying on track academically. His past theater credits with VYT include roles in “The Wizard of Oz,” “The Secret Garden,” and “The SpongeBob Musical,” and he played the villain Hans in TheaterWorks’ “Disney’s Frozen JR.” His talent extends beyond the stage; Morgan also plays the piano and guitar.
His preparation for this specific role in Little Shop of Horrors involves practicing controlling the large-scale puppets from the inside, a different experience from the hand puppets he previously operated. By balancing academics with a demanding rehearsal and practice schedule, he has embraced every opportunity to learn, collaborate and shine on stage.
