New ASU Prep campuses, new partners and new paths to college open across the country this fall
This is the biggest year of growth in ASU Prep’s history. A new campus opened in downtown Phoenix. A new elementary school launched in the West Valley. And two new partner schools, one in Massachusetts and one in California, are bringing the ASU Prep model to students who never had access before.
Over the past several years, Amy McGrath, Managing Director of ASU Prep & ASU Vice President of Educational Outreach, has collaborated with educators and innovators on a shared vision for K–12 education reinvention. From a best-selling economist to the founder of Khan Academy, these leaders are determined to build new schools and new ways for students to learn.
Growing across Arizona
After 17 years on Fillmore Street, ASU Prep Phoenix moved into a new home this fall in downtown Phoenix. The K–12 campus serves an elementary program in grades K–5 and a secondary program in grades 6–12, with early college opportunities starting in ninth grade through Arizona State University courses, real-world learning with ASU researchers and internship opportunities. “Our ASU Prep Phoenix students and staff deserve a modern, inspiring learning space and we’re excited to deliver on that promise,” said Amy McGrath, ASU Prep Managing Director.
In the West Valley, ASU Prep opened a new K–4 in-person school in partnership with AZ LEADS and has paired that with a 5–8 program through ASU Prep Digital+ that blends two days on campus with three days of personalized online learning.
“The West Valley is seeing rapid growth and significant job expansion, and that’s bringing a surge of families to the area who prioritize education and a path toward future college and career attainment,” McGrath said.
ASU Prep South Phoenix completed a full campus renovation this summer, and new opportunities are opening across the network to help students start earning college credit sooner.
“This is one of the biggest years in ASU Prep’s history,” McGrath said. “We’re growing so more families across Arizona can find a school that fits their student.”

Partnering with innovators nationwide
ASU Prep’s growth isn’t limited to Arizona. In Massachusetts, Felix Commonwealth Virtual School opened its new home at Lasell University in Newton this month, becoming the first public school of its kind in the state to operate on a college campus.
Felix pairs online coursework, developed in partnership with ASU Prep, with an in-person hub where students can get support, connect with peers and tap into college campus resources. Nearly 60 students from more than two dozen Massachusetts communities are enrolled so far, with plans to grow to hundreds of students in the years ahead.
“Universities are the hubs of society,” said Lasell University President Eric Turner. “At Lasell, we are proud to welcome the Felix School to our beautiful campus.”
In California, The Levitt Lab at Da Vinci Connect opened its doors this fall in El Segundo. The school builds on the original Levitt Lab model launched by ASU Prep in Tempe, Arizona, and was developed together with Da Vinci Schools and economist Steven Levitt, best known as the co-author of Freakonomics.
The school welcomed its first ninth-grade class this fall, with students learning in person four days a week with one flexible day built in. Roughly 40 ASU college credits are built into the four-year pathway.
The Levitt Lab at Da Vinci Connect was also recently selected to join a national cohort of schools exploring how artificial intelligence can shape the classroom of the future.
“When we find educators and innovators who are already reimagining what school can look like, we build with them,” McGrath said. “That’s how ASU Prep keeps growing in places families never expected to find us.”
Part of a bigger purpose
ASU Prep is chartered by Arizona State University, a university measured not by whom it excludes, but by whom it includes and how they succeed, and dedicated to advancing research and discovery that benefits the public.
ASU Prep’s mission flows directly from that charter: to design new models for educational success and raise academic achievement for all learners.
That mission earned new recognition this year. Khan World School @ ASU Prep was named a Top 10 finalist for the 2026 World’s Best School Prize for Innovation, presented by T4 Education, placing it among the 10 most innovative schools in the world.

“Every new school we open is proof that ASU’s charter isn’t just words on a page,” McGrath said. “It’s what we’re building, one campus and one partnership at a time.”
The Class of 2026 posted a 92% post-secondary acceptance rate, earning more than 14,000 college credits and more than $28.5 million in scholarships along the way, numbers McGrath and her team expect to keep climbing as ASU Prep’s network keeps growing.
