Testing is something that nobody looks forward to, me included. I am here to give you some of my own personal testing tips in hope that I can help whoever is reading this. Remember though, these may not work for you because studying and testing is different for everyone.
One way that I prepare for tests is note taking, although I do this option less as it does not really help me too much unless the test is open note. It helps if it is open note because I can refer to the information easily, although if it is not open note usually the information is to much to store all of it in my long term memory. Using sites like Quizlet helps a lot when I have a lot of information I need to memorize. This helps me because it actually reinforces the information and allows you to truly memorize it and track your progress. Studying before the test also helps to so you can keep the information fresh in your mind. I will often utilize whatever resources the course offers for studying if any to study for tests.
Another important part of studying is getting a good night’s sleep and eating well. If you can do this, then I recommend getting at least eight hours of sleep before the test and eating a good breakfast so that your mind can focus. I would also recommend trying to stay healthy, as feeling sick can impact your ability to do well on the test.
I definitely spent a lot more time studying in my early years of high school as it was more necessary, and now I just study as necessary and know that cramming a ton of information into a session is not really helpful for much more other than saying ‘at least I tried’. I think how much time to spend studying really depends on the class and the impact the quizzes and tests have on your grade.
Everyone’s studying methods are different so mine might not work for you. What is important is that we try to do well and succeed in our classes! I wish everyone reading this good luck on their next test!
