The club that I will be spotlighting is Student Blog. This club is worth highlighting because you can have fun and be able to write better. Student Blog actively helps you write better with some tips and the students get to play a game of choice. Whether you want to write a blog one day or you just want to connect with other people who have a passion for writing, Student Blog is a club that makes anyone who joins feel welcome.
The Student Blog has quite a few missions. One of the missions is to inspire a love of writing. Another mission that this club has is to empower students to explore and amplify their unique voices. Another mission that this club has is to cultivate a supportive and inclusive community. The club’s final mission is to allow members to have opportunities to make friends.
During meetings students will typically do an icebreaker so they can learn more about each other. Next, there are the blog previews so students know what the next blog piece is and when it is due. During this there will also be mentions of any upcoming events and preparation for those events. After that students will get a blog tip that will help with writing a blog like how to draw a reader’s attention with just a title. Occasionally during meetings students will go into breakout rooms to apply how to use said blog tip. Lastly, students will then play a game of choice such as Blooket or Scattergories and after the game, the students then vote on the next game to play at their next meeting.
An upcoming event that Student Blog has is an Open Mic. It is basically where members and nonmembers share any pieces of writing that they have. Whether it is a short story, a piece of writing from a long excerpt, or just some poetry. This event allows everyone to share a piece of writing and it even lets nonmembers consider joining the club and learning more about it.
This club is an important part of ASUPD because of the ability to connect with others through writing and the ability to learn and apply skills from Student Blog. If you have a love of writing and want to meet others that do as well or you just want to learn a few writing tips, then Student Blog is the club for you.
