Starting with my perspective of my favorite class so far in ASU Prep Digital would be Fashion Design. The type of work I do in this course class is discuss different types of fabric, working materials, and understanding the use of specific colors in the fashion industry, we also have projects on making our own drawn outfits and explaining how each part of the outfit makes the overall feel of being labelled or seen as a fashion choice, and we’re now about to start learning how to sew for our own clothes or making outfits.
I’ve learned knowledge of knowing and understanding different fabric materials used in fashion choices between shirts, pants, dresses, etc. Some skills I’ve learned as well would be identifying and knowing what color schemes emotions are trying to be seen or provoked, or the aesthetic of a designer’s outfit or a consumer’s main look idea they’re trying to go for exactly.
And I recommend this class to students who have hobbies or interests in art, drawing, as well as people who like to do more hand-designed projects. The class is nice to enjoy.
I’ve also gotten the chance to interview the teacher of the class, Ms. White, in which I earned back some great responses to my small interview questions.
1 Q: What do you love about teaching this course?
A: What I love most about teaching this course is seeing students express their creativity and grow more confident with each project. It’s amazing to watch their ideas come to life through their designs!
2 Q: What’s one piece of advice you give to students starting it?
A: My advice to students starting the class is to embrace mistakes as part of the learning process. Every stitch and sketch is a step forward, so don’t be afraid to try new things.
3 Q: How do you support students when they feel stuck or overwhelmed?
A: When students feel stuck or overwhelmed, I encourage them to take a step back, break the problem into smaller steps, and ask questions. I’m always here to guide students and help brainstorm solutions together.
4 Q: What’s one project or topic students usually enjoy most?
A: One project students usually enjoy the most is a beginner sewing project where they make designs like a tote bag, apron, or pillowcase. It’s a great way to learn basic skills and feel proud of creating something useful!
I think this class really brought back a spark of creativity as well as motivation for myself and my hobby of drawing; it had a good, positive effect on me from a class I never really thought would. The teacher has helped me throughout the course academically with a great level of support and advice, so getting to know her has been a nice way of having an overall good connection.
