Teacher: Ms. Yuyu Bogdan

Brief summary of the course:
Algebra 1A is a fundamental course in mathematics, and it is an essential foundation for further math studies. In this course, I learned a lot of concepts related to algebra, such as linear equations, inequalities, functions, graphs, and more. I would recommend this course with Ms. Bogdan to any student that is looking for a teacher that is very caring, knowledgeable and excellent at explaining math concepts.

Highlights of the course and your favorite parts:
My favorite part of this course was the live lessons. The live lessons were an excellent way for me to learn because they provided real-time interaction and feedback from my teacher. Additionally, the live lessons allowed me to connect with my classmates, which created a sense of community and helped me to stay motivated and engaged in class. Moreover, the
live lessons provided an excellent opportunity for me to see how Ms. Bogdan solved math problems step by step, which was incredibly helpful, especially when I was struggling with a particular concept. This interactive and engaging way of learning was a great opportunity for me, and it is no surprise that it was my favorite part of the course. Ms. Bogdan did a
wonderful job explaining concepts and making sure that students comprehended the concepts. In conclusion, the live lessons in Ms. Bogdan’s Algebra 1A allowed me to interact with my classmates, learn new concepts, and get instant feedback. I greatly enjoyed this aspect of the course, and it truly is a testament to Ms. Bogdan’s elective teaching style.

Interview with Ms. Bogdan:
Why did you teach this course? “Algebra 1A is a foundational math class for high school students and even a necessity to go into college. Setting a solid foundation is very important to help students advance in math and to see if they want to use math as one of their majors. This course could even aect a student’s career choice.”

What was your favorite part about teaching this particular subject?
“I always love to see my students enjoy learning. This is just one course of many that I teach, and I always enjoy watching students develop critical thinking skills, ask questions and learn to advocate for themselves. I also am able to see the student grow as a person, I really enjoy about teaching”.

What was the biggest challenge of teaching this subject?
“Sometimes I see a question as easy and skip valuable steps of the math equation, not realizing that students could be behind on solving it. I sometimes have to go back and explain the problem again. This is why I always try to use simple words to not confuse my students.”

Any advice for students beginning (or considering) this course?
“Asking for help. Always ask your teacher if you have questions. A lot of students have trouble asking for help, but there is
nothing wrong with it and it’s very important for all students to do”.
