The Opportunities at ASU for High Schoolers

By: Faith Jang

I took Math 170, also known as Precalculus, in person during the summer at ASU this year. Dr.Frank Arthur was the teacher, but we had many teacher assistants to help us. The class was asix-week class on the actual college campus that was an accelerated course. It was justPrecalculus, but what made it great was all the support we got. We had lectures at the beginningof the class, and after lunch, we would get to do either practice problems or quizzes. I reallyliked how I got to meet different people from all over Arizona and how the tests I took allowedme to work on time management. This meant I became faster at math due to a time limit. Plus, Igot to stay at a dorm with a roommate, which was a lot of fun.
I think that this was very good because it allowed me to socialize with other people and makefriends, something hard to do in online school. It also taught me about college life and things todo on campus. Both of these are very important because they help prepare teenagers to becomeadults and teach responsibilities. Take, for example, my mom wasn’t there to tell me what to door keep me on track. So, instead, I had to force myself to put in extra effort to do well. Situationswhere parents are more hands-off while showing college life are very important and help kidslearn and grow. Since ASU offers multiple courses like this, it would be great if more peopleknew about these amazing and helpful opportunities.
